Команда фактчекерів агентства дослідила відео, яке напередодні почали поширювати користувачі у Facebook та інших соцмережах. У ролику демонструється величезний рекламний щит готелю Marriott Marquis на Таймс-сквер — ключове місце для реклами, відоме як Big Kahuna.

Журналісти виявили, що відео було змінено, щоб виглядало так, ніби на білборді розміщена реклама з логотипом CNN з написом: "Києву кінець. росіяни зупиняться на цьому чи підуть далі? Дізнайтеся про це та багато іншого у Political Briefing".

Political Briefing — це щотижневий подкаст, який веде політичний директор CNN Девід Чаліан.

Допис у Facebook, який першим запустив фейкове відео, містить підпис: "Реклама CNN у Нью-Йорку показує, що навіть у Сполучених Штатах мало хто вірить, що Україна переможе".

Віцепрезидент із комунікацій CNN Емілі Кун в електронному листі Reuters заявила, що компанія не має жодного відношення до напису і назвала його фальшивкою.

Гері Гроссман, представник нью-йоркської компанії Silvercast, яка розміщує рекламу на Таймс-Сквер, теж підтвердив, що відео є підробкою і ніколи не показувалося на рекламному щиті.
