Мэрия Вашингтона рассматривает законопроект о переименовании площади перед посольством России в честь убитого российского оппозиционера Бориса Немцова.

Как сообщает Радио Свобода, на общественных слушаниях по этому вопросу выступила дочь Немцова Жанна, соратник убитого политика Владимир Кара-Мурза младший, а также журналисты и представители общественных организаций.

Глава горсовета Фил Мендельсон подчеркнул, что инициатива не является политической акцией против российской власти, а символическим признанием заслуг Немцова в борьбе за демократию в РФ.

Ранее с подобной инициативой о переименовании сквера в Киеве выступил мэр украинской столицы Виталий Кличко.
