В Уругваї проходить другий тур президентських виборів. Фаворитом президентської гонки вважається кандидат від лівої коаліції при владі, колишній президент Табаре Васкес.

Згідно з опитуваннями, Васкес впевнено випереджає кандидата від правоцентристської "Національної партії" Луїса Лакалле Поу.

У першому турі президентських виборів Васкес набрав 47,8% голосів, а Поу - близько 31%.

Нинішній президент Хосе Мухіка, якого вважають найбіднішим главою держави у світі, не має права балотуватися на другий термін поспіль, але він залишається популярним серед уругвайців.

Союзником Мухіки якраз і вважають Васкеса, який уже був президентом Уругваю в 2005-2010 роках.

Він підтримує легалізацію комерційного виробництва та продажу марихуани. Його конкурент Поу має намір домагатися скасування закону про легалізацію марихуани.
