Чоловік з Києва брав участь у хакерській схемі, метою якої був вплив на фінансові ринки, аби заробити на цьому.

Киянина Вадима Єрмоловича засудили до двох з половиною років ув'язнення та штрафу в три мільйони доларів США за продаж неопублікованих прес-релізів корпорацій.

Такий вирок виніс окружний суд Нью-Арку, штат Нью-Джерсі.

29-річний Єрмолович був задіяний у найбільшій відомій хакерській оборудці з метою вплинути на фінансові ринки, пише інформагенція Reuters з посиланням на обвинувачення. Кримінальна схема принесла загалом до ста мільйонів доларів нелегальних прибутків.

В той же час інформагенція AP оцінює суму у близько 30 мільйонів доларів.

Загалом хакери викрали близько 150 тисяч прес-релізів бізнесових видань Business Wire, Marketwired та PR Newswire у період між лютим 2010 та серпнем 2015 років. Ці прес-релізи містили дані про прибутки компаній та іншу важливу з точки зору торгівлі акціями інформацію. Замовники надавали перелік інформації, яка їх цікавила, а потім здійснювали біржові операції з такими компаніями, як Catterpillar Inc, Home Depot Co та Panera Bread Co. Загалом до схеми було залучено трьох хакерів та сімох біржових трейдерів. П'ятеро з обвинувачених визнали свою вину.

Учасників схеми було заарештовано у серпні 2015 року, як на території США, так і в Україні. Єрмолович визнав свою провину у викраденні особистих даних з обтяжуючими обставинами та інших кіберзлочинах у травні 2016 року.
