Раніше французькі ЗМІ повідомили, що дружина Франсуа Фійона Пенелопа Фійон заробила півмільйона євро за 10 років на посаді помічника в офісі чоловіка, коли він був сенатором. Але при цьому журналісти заявили, що не знайшли ніяких доказів її роботи.

Після широкого розголосу французьке управління по боротьбі з фінансовими злочинами розпочало попереднє розслідування щодо розкрадання державних коштів та зловживання соціальними благами.

Пізніше у французьких ЗМІ з’явилися нові звинувачення щодо дружини і дітей Фійона, які начебто отримали за роботу на держслужбі майже мільйон євро.
