Лідер опозиційної Лейбористської партії Джеремі Корбін в вівторок заявив про те, що скоріше за все в 2018 році в Великій Британії пройдуть вибори до парламенту. При цьому він виступив проти другого референдуму щодо членства країни в ЄС. Про це повідомляє Главком із посиланням на інформаційне агентство Reuters

Джеремі Корбін заявив про те, що в випадку дострокових виборів Лейбористська партія переможе. Дана заява не позбавлена сенсу, адже на дострокових виборах 2017 року лейбористи додатково отримали 30 місць в Палаті Громад, яка всього нараховує 650 депутатів.

Лідер лейбористів також виступив проти пропозиції Тоні Блера провести другий референдум щодо членства Великої Британії в ЄС. Сам Корбін в 1975 році голосував проти членства країни в ЄС, а в 2016 році за збереження в рамках цієї інтеграційної структури. Відмову підтримати ініціативу колишнього лідера Лейбористської партії нинішній її очільник мотивував тим, що в референдумі в червні 2016 року взяла участь найбільша кількість осіб за останній час. А тому партії не повинні відкидати думку населення. Джеремі Корбін замість цього заявив про те, що вони і далі будуть тиснути на нинішній уряд щодо запровадження перехідного періоду після березня 2019 року. Оскільки є шанси, що на той час ситуація із майбутнім форматом відносин із ЄС може бути невизначеною.
