Соцмережа Twitter заборонила розміщувати рекламу на своїй платформі російським пропагандистським каналам Russia Today і Sputnik.

У компанії прийняли відповідне рішення на основі висновків американського розвідувального агентства. Вони свідчать, що Russia Today і Sputnik намагалися впливати на вибори президента США у 2016 році.

"Нам складно далося це рішення і зараз ми робимо цей крок, який є частиною нашої відданості справі захисту цілісності роботи користувачів", - йдеться у повідомленні соцмережі.

Зазначається, що 1,9 млн доларів прибутків від реклами Russia Today і Sputnik, починаючи з 2011 року, соцмережа віддасть на благодійність. Зокрема на дослідження щодо використання Twitter на виборах, включно з розповсюдженням дезінформації.

Як повідомлялося, мін'юст США звернувся до російської телекомпанії RT, раніше Russia Today, з пропозицією зареєструвати американське відділення мовника як "іноземного агента". Однак телеканал RT не виконав вимоги міністерства юстиції США визнати себе іноземним агентом.

Главред RT Маргарита Симоньян на своєму сайті звинуватила США у "війні" проти російських ЗМІ і посяганні на свободу слова.

У зв'язку з цим в Росії заявили про готовність дати відповідь в ситуації з "обмеженням" російських ЗМІ в США.

Згодом міністерство юстиції Росії попередило "Радіо Свобода" і його проекти канал "Настоящее время" і сайт "Idel.Реаліі", що їх роботу в РФ можуть обмежити, оскільки "діяльність може бути кваліфікована як діяльність іноземного агента".
