Основатель проекта WikiLeaks Джулиан Ассанж обвинил администрацию Twitter в применении двойных стандартов, поскольку соцсеть отказалась верифицировать аккаунт активиста. На это обратило внимание издание Mashable.

Ассанж опубликовал скриншот с фразой администрации соцсети «Запрос на верификацию был рассмотрен и отклонен». Активист упомянул в твите главу Twitter Джека Дорси и добавил, что поведение администрации в вопросе утверждения аккаунтов абсурдно. В следующей публикации Ассанж рассказал, что добивается получения синей галочки с октября.

«Twitter руководствуется системой двойных стандартов, награждая синей галочкой тех, кто лоялен власти. Мне лично приятно быть в числе отверженных», — отметил основатель WikiLeaks.

С середины 2016 года администрация Twitter присваивает синие галочки аккаунтам личностей, вызывающих общественный интерес. Помимо знаменитых актеров и музыкантов, в соцсети часто проходят верификацию аккаунты блогеров, журналистов и просто знаменитых в сети людей.

Ассанж опубликовал свой первый твит в феврале 2016 года, опровергнув слухи о своей смерти. С июня 2012 года он скрывается в посольстве Эквадора в Великобритании, чтобы избежать экстрадиции в Швецию, где его подозревают в изнасиловании и сексуальных домогательствах. Свою вину журналист отрицает и опасается, что после выдачи шведским властям Стокгольм экстрадирует его в США, где ему может грозить смертная казнь из-за публикации секретной информации.
