В феврале TikTok достиг отметки в 1 млрд скачиваний, а всего за 2019 год приложение скачали 614 млн раз. Это на 6% выше, чем в прошлом году.

Это позволило TikTok выйти на третье место в списке самых скачиваемых приложений, опередив Facebook и Instagram. TikTok — единственное приложение в топ-5, не принадлежащее Facebook Inc.

Из всех приложений Facebook, Instagram является ближайшим конкурентом TikTok. По данным на ноябрь этого года, китайское приложение опережает Instagram на 238 млн скачиваний.

Больше всего приложение скачивали в Индии — 31% от всех загрузок. В апреле 2019 года власти страны запретили приложение из-за распространения порнографии, однако сняли запрет уже через месяц. Блокировка приложения в Индии стоила ему до $500 тыс. убытка ежедневно. Второй по величине рынок для TikTok — Китай с 11,5% загрузок. На третьем месте США — 8,2%.

TikTok запустила в 2016 году китайская компании ByteDance, известная в Китае как Douyin. В 2018 году Bytedance купила Musical.ly — приложение для записи коротких видео со 100 млн активными пользователями в месяц. Все пользователи перешли в TikTok.
