Пользователи соцсети стали активно проводить параллели с Донбассом и Каталонией, акцентируя внимание на том, что в одной из ведомых стран зародился очаг сепаратизма. В то же время украинский политический эксперт Олеся Яхно-Белковская в эфире одного из украинских телеканалов отметила, что совершенно неуместно проводить такие параллели, ведь это принципиально разные ситуации и вообще несравнимые. 

По словам политолога, на сепаратизм, обособленность, независимо от страны, могут претендовать только регионы, претендующие на самодостаточность – политическую, экономическую, культурную. Каталония – классический пример. Что касается Донбасса, то здесь речь идет о псевдосепаратизме, о российской агрессии, шифрующейся под сепаратизм части Донбасса. Другое дело, что до 2014 года украинские политэлиты использовали два вида регионального национализма – национально-культурный эгоизм Запада Украины и экономический эгоизм Востока – для достижения и удержания своих электоральных позиций.

Олеся Яхно-Белковская отмечает, что война России против Украины, в итоге, обессмыслила все эти различия. Сегодня есть пространство мира и пространство войны.
