Соціалістична партія України висунула свого голову Іллю Киву кандидатом у президенти на чергових виборах 2019 року. 

Відповідне рішення 20 січня ухвалили делегати з'їзду СПУ, що відбувся у Києві, пише Украънська правда

Як заявив Кива під час виступу, "це важливий крок - ми повертаємося у велику політику після 10 років перебування у забутті". 

"1,5 роки тому стояла задача підняти СПУ з колін і відродити. Перші кроки ми зробили, відроджено первинні організації... Ми стали учасниками виборчого процесу. ... Важливо, щоб присутність партії сьогодні була у великій політиці", - заявив він. 

За словами Киви, участь у виборах президента - "перший етап,  який СПУ ставить перед собою".

"Другий етап - парламентські вибори, ми маємо представляти інтереси народу у парламенті. Третій етап - повернення до соцінтерну та відновлення позицій у Європейській соціалістичній партій. Європейська родина чекає на нас", - додав глава СПУ. 

Він додав, що "перше, що ми маємо брати у Європи - не марші ЛГБТ-спільнот, а соціальну захищенність". 

СПУ проголосувала за висунення кандидатури Іллі Киви для участі у президентських виборах 2019 року.
