Канадская писательница, журналистка и политик украинского происхождения Христя Фриланд будет назначена новым министром иностранных дел Канады.

Как сообщило CBC News, о назначении Фриланд будет оглашено во вторник 10 января, пишет Новое время

Фриланд покидает должность в министерстве международной торговли и заменит Стефана Диона, который уходит из МИД Канады, чтобы занять дипломатический пост.

Христя Фриланд родилась в канадском городе Пис-Ривер. Ее мать - украинка Галина Хомяк-Фриланд.

Журналистскую карьеру Фриланд начинала в Украине в качестве Стрингера Financial Times, The Washington Post и The Economist.

Избрана в канадский парламент 25 ноября 2013. В ноябре 2015 года Фриланд стала министром международной торговли Канады.
