Міністр освіти і науки України Сергій Квіт звернувся до академічної спільноти України з проханням зробити свій внесок у вдосконалення україномовного розділу «Вікіпедії». Це сприятиме формуванню й утвердженню сучасної української наукової та фахової термінології, спонукатиме до розвитку творчого потенціалу, а також розвиватиме пізнавальну активність підростаючого покоління.

Сьогодні україномовний розділ відкритої багатомовної мережевої енциклопедії налічує 680 тисяч статей, і за цим показником україномовна «Вікіпедія» обіймає третє місце серед розділів слов’янськими мовами, 11-те – серед європейських розділів та 16-те – серед усіх мовних розділів.

Україномовна «Вікіпедія» дещо поступається іншомовним аналогам, у тому числі, за якістю наведеної інформації. Багато статей мають неповний і незавершений зміст чи недосконалу форму подачі, а це спонукає українських інтернет-користувачів звертатись до інших зрозумілих іноземних версій «Вікіпедії».

Міністр освіти і науки закликав кожного науковця України зробити свій внесок у популяризацію україномовної «Вікіпедії» та написати до неї 2 - 3 фахових статті. Сергій Квіт також звернувся до викладачів ВНЗ долучити до цієї роботи талановиту й обізнану молодь.
