Російські пропагандисти  поширили фото Романа Вінтоніва під виглядом «іноземного найманця» з Міжнародного легіону ЗСУ. 

Прокремлівські телеграм-канали, опублікували фото журналіста Романа Вінтоніва (він же Майкл Щур) з шевроном-прапором Канади і написали, буцімто за повідомленнями французьких джерел, «останніми днями Російська армія посилила удари по Міжнародному легіону ЗСУ, що формується з іноземних найманців, на території Луганської області».

Перевірили вкид росіян фактчекери проєкту VoxCheck. Вони знайшли фото Романа Вінтоніва у твітері, його він опублікував  8 травня 2022 року, коли дякував за нещодавній візит прем’єр-міністра Канади Джастіна Трюдо. 

Роман Вінтонів служить у 112-ій бригаді Сил територіальної оборони ЗСУ та є громадянином України, а не іноземним добровольцем.
