В четверг, 8 февраля, правящая партия Азербайджана выдвинула кандидатом в президенты на предстоящих выборах действующего главу государства Ильхама Алиева.

Такое решение было принято на съезде партии Новый Азербайджан, пишет Радио Свобода.

Ранее сообщалось, что президентские выборы в Азербайджане должны были состояться 17 октября, однако были перенесены на 11 апреля.

Помощник Алиева пояснил, что перенос даты президентских выборов в Азербайджане связан с проведением международных и местных мероприятий к 100-летию создания республики.

Оппозиция заявила о бойкоте выборов президента.

В соответствии с изменениями в конституцию Азербайджана, внесенным осенью 2016 года, президент страны теперь будет избираться на 7 лет.
