Повторные президентские выборы в Кении пройдут 17 октября. Такое решение приняло руководство Независимой избирательной комиссии страны, сообщает американский телеканал CNN.

«В намеченных выборах новых кандидатур не будет», — отметили в комиссии и добавили, что кампании вновь примут участие действующий президент Кении Ухуру Кениата, его основной соперник бывший премьер-министр Раила Одинга и ряд других кандидатов, принимавших участие в прежних выборах, признанных недействительными.

Напомним, акции протеста сторонников Одинги прошедшие 8 августа президентские выборы в Кении Верховный суд страны признал недействительными. Победу на них одержал президент Кениата, однако суд назвал выборы «не имеющими законной силы, недействительными и лишенными юридической силы».
