Міністр внутрішніх справ Британії Тереза Мей виграла перший раунд голосування на виборах лідера Консервативної партії, що замінить нинішнього прем’єр-міністра Девіда Кемерона.

Участь у голосуванні за нового лідера взяли 329 депутатів із 330, що представляють торі у британському парламенті.

Мей, яка виступала проти виходу Британії з ЄС, отримала 165 голосів. Друге місце посіла міністр з питань енергетики Андреа Лідсом із 66 голосами. Не виключено, що британський уряд вдруге в історії очолить жінка.

Міністр юстиції Майкл Гоув, який активно підтримував Brexit, отримав 48 голосів. Міністр з питань праці і у справах пенсій Стівен Кребб набрав 34 голоси і оголосив, що припиняє участь у виборах і буде підтримувати Терезу Мей.

Екс-міністр оборони Ліам Фокс вибув із голосування, посівши останнє місце із 16 голосами.

Наступний раунд голосування пройде у четвер. Коли залишаться два кандидати, лідера обиратимуть близько 150 тисяч членів Консервативної партії по всій країні. Ім'я нового очільника консерваторів назвуть 9 вересня.
