Глава МЗС Польщі Гжегож Схетина заявив, що Освенцим визволяли солдати Першого Українського фронту.

Про це він сказав в інтерв’ю Польському радіо,пише Європейська правда

"Може, варто сказати, що то Перший Український фронт, українці визволяли Аушвіц? Бо в той січневий день там були українські солдати і вони відкривали браму табору", - сказав він, відповідаючи на запитання про те, чому Варшава не надіслала запрошення на урочистості з нагоди 70-річчя визволення Освенцима президенту Росії, яка є спадкоємицею СРСР.

Схетина нагадав, що організацією заходу опікувався Музей Освенцима та Міжнародна рада Освенцима. Він також додав, що цього року представник жодної держави не отримував персональних запрошень.

Нагадаємо, раніше повідомлялося, що президент Росії ВолодимирПутін не поїде до Польщі на святкування 70-річчя визволення концтабору Освенцим 27 січня. В той же час за словами речника Путіна, він надає надзвичайного значення всім меморіальним заходам, присвяченим Другій світовій війні, однак "персонального запрошення не було".
