Парламент Молдови оголосив, що президентські вибори в країні відбудуться 30 жовтня. Вперше з 2001 року главу держави обиратимуть не у парламенті, а на загальних виборах, пише Радіо Свобода.

На початку березня Конституційний суд Молдови постановив, що країна має повернутися до прямих виборів президента на всенародному голосуванні.

Таким чином суд анулював зміни до основного закону Молдови від 5 липня 2000 року. Конституційний суд оголосив недійсними всі внесені тоді парламентом поправки щодо переходу до виборів президента у парламенті голосами трьох п’ятих депутатів.

4-річний термін повноважень президента Ніколае Тімофті закінчуються в березні, але він продовжуватиме виконувати обов’язки до обрання наступника.
