Керівник московського бюро журналу The Economist Аркадій Островський став лауреатом премії імені Джорджа Орвела - престижної британської премії у сфері політичної журналістики, повідомляє Media Sapiens

Островського нагородили премією за книгу «The Invention of Russia», у якій розповідається про сучасну історію Росії від правління Михайла Горбачова на початку 1990-х і до подій останніх років.

Голова журі премії лорд Вільям Волдегрейв порівняв роботу Островського з книгами Орвела «1984» та «Колгосп тварин» - як і в романах британського письменника, у книзі журналіста розглядається питання контролю мови та традиційних ЗМІ.

«Це прекрасна книга, яка відповідає суворим критеріям політичної журналістики як майстерності, та екстраординарний приклад того, що її тематика має цілковитий стосунок до традицій Орвела», - заявив Волдегрейв.

Премія імені Джорджа Орвела присуджується з 1993 року.

Нагадуємо, що цього року єдину золоту медаль Пулітцерівської преміїотримала команда журналістів Associated Press за розслідування про те, як у Південно-Східній Азії (Таїланді та Індонезії) використовується підневільна праці задля вилову та поставки риби та морепродуктів на столи американських споживачів.
