Армія російських тролів допомагала розкручувати референдум у Каталонії у соціальних мережах. Цими тролями керує голова "Антиглобалістського руху Росії", який фінансується Кремлем.

За даними журналістів, російські антиглобалісти підтримують сепаратистів по всьому світі, але особливо їх цікавлять сепаратисти на Заході. У Росії вони подібною діяльністю не займаються, оскільки за це існує кримінальна відповідальність. Втім, голова "Антиглобалістського руху Росії" Олександр Іонов запевняє, що в Росії просто немає сепаратистських рухів. 

El Mundo пише, що іспанські правоохоронці наразі розслідують, чи не допомагали російські антиглобалісти каталонцям у тому, "щоб щоб клонувати сайти референдуму та створювати боти для поширення повідомлень в соцмережах таких фігур і організацій, як Ассанж, Сноуден, RT або WikiLeaks".

За інформацією видання, бюджет організації Іонова складає десятки тисяч доларів. Гроші йдуть з урядових програм Кремля на підтримку "патріотичних та військових" проектів, і цього не приховує сам Іонов.
