Instagram наконец-то признал, что IGTV не увенчался успехом. Компания переименовывает IGTV в «Instagram TV» и отказывается от эксклюзивного видеоформата IGTV. Видео, размещенные в основной ленте Instagram, теперь могут длиться до 60 минут и пользователю больше не придется выходить из основного приложения, чтобы просмотреть их.

Представитель Instagram заявил, что приложение IGTV, которое теперь называется приложением Instagram TV, останется «местом, куда люди будут приходить с намерением посмотреть видео».
IGTV был представлен в июне 2018 года и, по сути, должен был стать мобильным эквивалентом YouTube, создавая площадку для поиска и просмотра более длинных видео. Но более длинный формат так и не прижился. А всего через два месяца в США было запущено приложение под названием TikTok.

С тех пор Instagram переориентировал свои усилия на видео, чтобы конкурировать с TikTok. Короткие ролики Reels были запущены в августе 2020 года, и Instagram активно продвигал их, предоставляя им центральное место в навигации приложения, начиная продавать рекламу и размещая ее в ленте новостей Facebook.

Тем не менее, у Reels есть один серьезный недостаток: он не предлагает авторам единого способа получения средств, как это делают YouTube и TikTok. Facebook планирует выплатить креаторам видео 1 миллиард долларов к концу 2022 года.
