Горсовет Вильнюса 24 февраля принял единогласное решение об увековечивании памяти Бориса Немцова. Была принята резолюция, в соответствии с которой именем Немцова в литовской столице будет названа улица или сквер, пишет delfi.

Такое предложение, выдвинутое от имени фракции Союза Отечества - Христианские демократы Литвы (консерваторов) ее старостой Миколасом Маяускасом за несколько дней до первой годовщины смерти Немцова, было поддержано общим соглашением столичных политиков. Резолюция обязывает администрацию Вильнюсской мэрии подготовить соответствующий проект. В резолюции отмечается, что "назвав именем Немцова, человека, боровшегося за лучший мир с демократической Россией, сквер или улицу Вильнюса, мы засвидетельствуем свою решимость быть на стороне свободного, открытого и демократического мира".

Член Сейма Эмануэлис Зингерис, поблагодарил депутатов горсовета за принятое решение, отметив, что таким образом были учтены просьба членов парламента и обращение дочери убитого политика Жанны Немцовой Критик президента России Владимира Путина и лидер российской оппозиции Б.

Немцов был убит вечером 27 февраля 2015 года недалеко от Кремля. Соратники Б. Немцова утверждают, что его убийство, скорее всего, организовало окружение близкое к президенту Чечни Рамзану Кадырову. Пяти чеченцам, в том числе - замглаве батальона сил МВД Чеченской Республики были предъявлены обвинения в убийстве Б. Немцова, однако заказчики это преступления не были задержаны.
