Додаток Screenwise Meter від Google пропонував винагороду юзерам за поглиблений збір їхніх персональних даних. Раніше Apple заблокувала аналогічний додаток від Facebook.

Як пише TechCrunch, Google запрошував до встановлення програми осіб від 18 років. Проте, як частина сім’ї, користуватись нею могли і підлітки від 13 років.

Додаток існував з 2012 року та пропонував отримати подарункові карти і участь у програмі винагородження від Google за те, що користувачі встановлювали VPN-додаток з корпоративним сертифікатом.

Такий підхід дозволяв компанії Google моніторити і аналізувати трафік і дані юзерів. Встановити програму можна було на будь-який девайс: комп’ютер, роутер, телевізор, мобільний телефон тощо.

Користувачі також могли тимчасово вимкнути стеження за собою чи дітьми, використовуючи «гостьовий режим».

«Додаток для iOS Screenwise Meter не повинен працювати в рамках корпоративної програми розробників Apple — це була помилка, і ми вибачаємося. Ми вимкнули цю програму на пристроях iOS. Ця програма є повністю добровільною і завжди була. Ми пояснюємо користувачам те, як ми використовуємо їхні дані в цій програмі. Ми не маємо доступу до зашифрованих даних у програмах, і користувачі можуть відмовитися від програми в будь-який час», — прокоментували ситуацію у Google.

Нагадаємо, раніше компанія Apple заблокувала в App Store подібний додаток від Facebook через використання ним корпоративного сертифікату. Програма Facebook Research пропонувала $20 на місяць користувачам віком 13-25 років за збір їхніх персональних даних.

Нещодавно керівник Apple Тім Кук звернувся до Конгресу США з пропозицією посилити законодавство про захист приватних даних.
