В інтернеті з’явилась службова записка Діка Костоло, в якій він пише, що через грубі чи образливі повідомлення, мікроблог втрачає свою аудиторію.

 У листі гендиректор досить відверто пише про погане становище у цій сфері: «Ми провалили боротьбу з образами  і тролями на нашій платформі, і ми програємо її всі останні роки. Це не секрет, і світ про це говорить щодня. Ми втрачаємо ключових користувачів, просто через те, що ніяк не реагуємо на образи, яких вони зазнають щодня»,повідомляє Media Sapiens

Дік Костоло пише, що це абсурдна ситуація, яка не має виправдань. Однак гендиректор всю провину покладає на себе: «Я бере всю відповідальність на себе, оскільки не поводився більш рішуче у цьому напрямі. Це лише моя провина, і це мене дуже непокоїть».

Гендиректор заявляє, що все має змінитися, і визнання помилки – уже перший крок у виправленні ситуації. Він зазначив, що забезпечить працівників всім необхідним, щоб реагувати на скарги користувачів.

Приводом до такого листа стала історія Лінді Уест – один із користувачів Twitter створив мікроблог від імені її померлого батька та писав звідти знущальні повідомлення. На новини про цей випадок звернули увагу співробітники компанії та звернулись до гендиректора з питанням, чи можна уникнути таких ситуацій у майбутньому.
