Колишній президент Європейського парламенту Мартін Шульц може повернутися у європейську політику на виборах у травні 2019 року.

Про це повідомляє Spiegel.

Шульц залишив посаду голови Соціал-демократичної партії Німеччини восени минулого року після провалу на парламентських виборах. Він може стати лідером соціалістів на виборах до Європарламенту наступного року.

Для європейських виборів 2019 року соціал-демократам теоретично потрібні два топ-кандидата. По-перше, треба знайти соціал-демократа, який представлятиме партію на національному етапі виборчої кампанії.

По-друге, європейським соціал-демократам необхідно знайти кандидата для загальноєвропейської виборчої кампанії. Потенційним кандидатом вважається глава зовнішньої політики ЄС Федеріка Могеріні.

Шульц нещодавно був присутнім на врученні премії Карла Великого в Аахені. Президент Франції, який отримав нагороду, назвав його у своєму виступі одним з головних героїв європейської політики.

Сам Шульц поки не коментував можливість участі у європейських виборах.
