В 2017 году правозащитную премию Европарламента за свободу мысли имени Андрея Сахарова получила демократическая оппозиция Венесуэлы во главе с председателем Национальной ассамблеи Хулио Борхес (Julio Borges).

К демократической оппозиции отнесли также венесуэльских политзаключенных: Леопольдо Лопеса, Антонио Ледезма, Даниэля Себайоса, Йона Гойкоечеа, Лорента Салеха, Альфредо Рамоса и Андреа Гонсалез. 

"Последние несколько лет в Венесуэле проолжается политический кризис. Правящая партия неуклонно ограничивала верховенство закона и конституционный порядок, а в марте 2017 года Верховный суд лишил демократически избранное Национальное собрание законодательной власти. Хулио Борхес, глава Национальной ассамблеи, охарактеризовал ситуацию в Венесуэле следующими словами: "Речь идет не только о политической конфронтации в Венесуэле. Это жизненная, экзистенциальная, основанная на ценностях конфронтация", - говорится в сообщении.

При этом отмечается, что число политических узников в Венесуэле уже превысило 600 человек, в связи с чем в Европарламенте поддержали всех арестованных режимом в Венесуэле оппозиционных политиков.

Также отмечается, что с начала 2017 года были убиты 130 противников режима Николаса Мадуро, более 500 были "произвольно" заключены в тюрьму.  

Сахаровская премия "За свободу мысли" была учреждена в 1988 г. для награждения людей или общественных организаций, отличившихся в деле защиты прав человека и основополагающих свобод. Церемония вручения правозащитной премии за 2015 год состоится 16 декабря в Страсбурге.

Напомним, что в прошлом году премию Сахарова получили иракские правозащитницы.
