79-річний Сільвіо Берлусконі пообіцяв відродити свою партію "Вперед, Італія" і здобути перемогу над лівоцентристським урядом Маттео Ренці в цьому році.

"Це буде рік боротьби проти лівого режиму, який потоптав демократію", - заявив колишній прем'єр-міністр в інтерв'ю газеті Il Giornale.

Берлусконі також спростував чутки про розбіжності між "Вперед, Італія" та іншими правими партіями, "Лігою Півночі" і "Братами Італії". Він сказав, що всі три партії можуть виступити єдиним фронтом на місцевих виборах, які пройдуть цього року в Римі, Мілані, Неаполі та Болоньї.

Як пише The Guardian, наступні парламентські вибори в Італії повинні пройти в 2018 році, проте, вони можуть відбутися раніше через нестабільність правлячої партії.

"Моя мета полягає в тому, щоб "Вперед, Італія" знову отримала більше 20% голосів, це дозволить правоцентристам подолати бар'єр в 40% і перемогти на виборах в першому турі", - заявив Берлусконі.

Сільвіо Берлусконі покинув пост прем'єр-міністра в 2011 році через політичну кризу, яка виникла на тлі фінансово-економічних труднощів. Проти нього ініціювалася велика кількість кримінальних справ. У ряді випадків його визнали винним. У 2013 році суд заборонив Берлусконі займати державні посади.
