Знаменитый хакер Ким Дотком, живущий в Новой Зеландии, объявил о намерении создать собственную политическую партию. По его словам, он намерен привлечь в неё молодёжь и «вытащить» на выборы тех, кто обычно не голосует, сообщает Australian Times.
Ким Дотком, немецкий предприниматель, бывший владелец крупнейшего файлообменника Megaupload, а с января 2013 года — нового файлообменника Mega, собирается участвовать в политической жизни Новой Зеландии. Ранее он говорил, что не может выставлять свою кандидатуру на выборах, так как не имеет новозеландского гражданства, однако, изучив местное законодательство, узнал, что, прожив в стране более года и имея официальную регистрацию избирателя, может участвовать в выборах. В 2014 году в Новой Зеландии состоятся парламентские выборы, на которых хакер представит собственную партию.
Ранее он писал в Twitter, что его предвыборная программа будет включать прокладку нового подводного интернет-кабеля в Новую Зеландию, снижение цен на интернет и отмену ограничений по трафику.
Власти США инкриминировали предпринимателю вымогательство, отмывание денег и массовые нарушения авторских прав, безуспешно добиваясь его экстрадиции. В январе 2012 года он был арестован в Новой Зеландии, но впоследствии отпущен под залог. Скандал с Megaupload используют, чтобы продвинуть закон, который введёт тотальный контроль над интернет-пространством, заявляет адвокат Доткома. Все обвинения в адрес создателя Megaupload – «политическое преследование» и некорректное применение гражданского права, сообщил он в открытом письме, выложенном в интернете.
