Избирательные участки открылись в 8:00 (06:00 по Киеву) и продолжат работу до 19:00 (17:00 по Киеву). ЦИК в течение дня будет обнародовать явку по состоянию на 10:00, 12:00, 15:00, 17:00 и 19:00 местного времени.

В президенты идут: действующий глава государства, председатель правящей партии «Новый Азербайджан» Ильхам Алиев (дважды выигрывал президентские выборы в 2003 и 2008 годах); председатель партии «Умид» («Надежда»), депутат Милли Меджлиса (парламента) Игбал Агазаде; бывший зампредседателя партии «Ана ветен» («Родина»), депутат Захид Орудж; председатель Партии единого народного фронта Азербайджана, депутат Гудрат Гасангулиев; лидер партии «Современный Мусават» Хафиз Гаджиев, председатель Социал-демократической партии Араз Ализаде; лидер партии «Движение национального возрождения», депутат Фарадж Гулиев; единый кандидат от оппозиционного Национального совета демократических сил Азербайджана Джамиль Гасанли, руководитель партии «Адалят» («Справедливость»), депутат Ильяс Исмайлов и председатель Демократической партии Азербайджана, Сардар Джалалоглу.

После референдума 18 марта 2009 года были сняты ограничения на количество избраний одного и того же лица на пост главы государства.

Правом голоса в Азербайджане обладают 5 млн 144 тыс. 937 человек.

Голосование в день выборов будет осуществляться на 5491 избирательном участке в 125 избирательных округах республики. На тысяче избирательных участков установлены веб-камеры с целью обеспечения прозрачности процессов голосования и подсчета голосов избирателей.

В день выборов около 12 тыс. избирателей, находящихся за пределами Азербайджана, примут участие в голосовании на 38 избирательных участках, созданных в азербайджанских дипломатических миссиях в различных странах, сообщил ранее пресс-секретарь МИД Азербайджана Эльман Абдуллаев.

Выборы считаются состоявшимися при любой явке избирателей.

В связи с проведением президентских выборов правоохранительные органы Азербайджана с 7 по 13 октября будут работать в усиленном режиме.

В соответствии с Конституцией, кандидат в президенты признается избранным главой Азербайджана, если за него проголосовало более половины принимавших участие в голосовании избирателей. Если никому из кандидатов в президенты не удастся набрать достаточное количество голосов, то, по решению Центризбиркома, назначается повторное голосование по двум кандидатам, набравшим на выборах наибольшее количество голосов.

Избранный президент в течение трех дней, начиная со дня официального объявления Конституционным судом итогов голосования, принимает присягу и вступает в должность.
