Бывший спикер парламента Реувен Ривлин избран президентом Израиля, сообщает AP. За него проголосовали сегодня во втором раунде президентских выборов 63 из 120 депутатов кнессета (парламента Израиля).

На высший государственный пост также претендовали — член правой партии «Ликуд», возглавляющей правящую коалицию, Далия Ицик — бывший спикер кнессета, Меир Шитрит — бывший министр внутренних дел, член левоцентристской партии «Ха-тнуа», которая входит в правящую коалицию; Далия Дорнер — бывшая судья Верховного суда Израиля (1993-2004), с 2006 года — президент Израильского объединения журналистов; Даниэль Шехтман — профессор, лауреат Нобелевской премии по химии за 2011 год «за открытие квазикристаллов», ранее не занимавшийся политикой.
