«Синя галочка» дає людям зрозуміти, що дана сторінка або профіль є справжніми. Це знак того, що адміністрація Facebook перевірила цю сторінку на справжність, тобто за сторінкою з такою відміткою варто реальна людина, а не шахрай.
Таким чином адміністрація Facebook захищає користувачів від неправдивої або небезпечної інформації, яку можуть розсилати зловмисники, прикриваючись профілями відомих людей.
