Близько 10 поліцейських відвідали офіс британського телеканалу ВВС в Бангкоку після публікації біографії нового короля Таїланду Махи Вачіралонгкорна на сайті каналу.

Офіс телеканалу був закритий. Пізніше до редакції приїхали військові: вони хотіли уточнити мету візиту поліцейських.

ВВС поки що не коментує ситуацію.

Тайське підрозділ телеканалу звинуватили в наклепі, а сторінку з історією життя 64-річного короля, опублікованій на наступний день після того, як він прийняв престол, заблокували. Розслідування триває.

У публікації висловлювалися сумніви в здібностях нового короля. Йшлося про те, що він не зміг заслужити таку ж популярність, як його батько, який керував країною понад 70 років. Також досьє, зібране журналістами, розповідало про закордонну освіті нового короля і його польоти на особистому літаку.

Після публікації біографії на тайському мовою багато жителів країни писали гнівні коментарі у Facebook і погрожували журналістам фізичною розправою. 3 грудня за репост тексту в соцмережі заарештували опозиціонера. 4 грудня його відпустили під заставу.

У Таїланді за образи або погрози на адресу королівської сім'ї загрожує від 3 до 15 років в'язниці.
