Впервые французы стали чемпионами мира в 1998 году. Хорватия впервые в истории играла в финала мирового первенства.
После триумфа руководители французского метро сделали подарок футболистам. Некоторые станции получили имена в честь игроков национальной команды и главного тренера. Так, станцию Victor Hugo переименовали в Victor Hugo Lloris (в честь вратаря Уго Льориса), а Notre-Dame des Champs – в Notre Didier Deschamps (в честь главного тренера Дидье Дешама).
Другие же остановки получили имена в честь прозвища сборной (Синие) и второй звезды, символизирующей то, что французы стали двукратными чемпионами мира
