Поліцейські почали розслідування цього інциденту, щоб з'ясувати, хто міг це зробити.

Цей банер на статуї висів не довго – не більше години. Його зняли правоохоронці, так як відповідно до законодавства Америки, національні пам'ятники не можна завішувати плакатами.

Про відповідальність за ці дії заявив невідомий, керуючий акаунтом Alt Statue of Liberty в соцмережах – групою, що неофіційно висловлює думку звичайних громадян, які бажають що-небудь сказати про Америку, в яку вони вірять.

"Ми хочемо нагадати, що Америка є маяком свободи у світі, країна була побудована іммігрантами. Огорожа країн або релігій - проти наших цінностей", - пише він.

Нагадаємо, указ, підписаний президентом США Дональдом Трампом 28 січня, вводив 90-денну заборону на в'їзд у Сполучені Штати для громадян Судану, Ємену, Лівії, Сомалі, Іраку, Ірану і Сирії. Також був припинений на невизначений термін прийом сирійських біженців. Програма прийому біженців з інших країн була заморожена на 120 днів.
