Американець Льюїс Фріз став першим чоловіком, який пройшов у фінал щорічного відкритого кастингу моделей в купальниках від журналу Sports Illustrated. 21-річний студент із Міннесоти розповів People, що штовхнуло його на участь у конкурсі.

"Я дійсно вважаю себе не першим, а наступним, - розповів Фриз. - Наступним, хто подолає бар'єр, наступною моделлю для цих незручних розмов, наступною моделлю, яка зможе бути собою, не вибачаючись".

Молодий чоловік розповів, що в дитинстві завжди відчував потребу придушувати свою жіночність, проте навчився себе приймати і відчув упевненість.

"Купальники - одна з найбільш бінарних форм одягу, і я вважаю, що Sports Illustrated Swimsuit справді змінив значення того, що вони представляють", - говорить Фриз, який вчиться на маркетолога і мріє розробляти гендерно-нейтральні продукти.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit - впливове видання, для якого свого часу знімалися Хайді Клум, Ірина Шейк, Емілі Ратаковскі, Наомі Кемпбелл, Ешлі Грем та інші супермоделі. У 2020 році Валентина Сампайо стала першою трансгендерною моделлю Sports Illustrated. Якщо Льюїс Фріз переможе у фіналі кастингу, у нього з'явиться шанс стати першим чоловіком на обкладинці глянцю.
