YouTube отмечает, что практически каждое значимое событие в мире за последние несколько лет сопровождалось размещением видео с мест событий, снятых пользователями, и регулярно применяются СМИ для иллюстрации материалов. Видеохостинг хочет повысить эффективность использования новых медиа, главным недостатком которых остается сложность подтверждения информации, так как авторы редко сообщают ее источник.
Цель YouTube — дать профессиональным СМИ новый канал предоставления подтвержденной информации и видеоконтента, снятого очевидцами событий.
