Спикер ливанского парламента Набих Берри перенес выборы главы государства на 18 апреля, сообщает ливанское национально агентство NNA, передает РИА Новости 

По данным агентства, в среду на заседание парламента явилось всего 52 депутата. В результате тридцать седьмая попытка выбрать президента не состоялась из-за нехватки кворума.

Страна находится в политическом кризисе после завершения президентского срока бывшего главы государства Мишеля Сулеймана в мае 2014 года. Согласно конституции Ливана, президентом может быть только христианин-маронит, избранный парламентом. Марониты относятся к католической церкви, большинство их общин проживает в Ливане. Последователей этой религии в стране около 25% от всего населения.

 На сегодняшний день ливанский парламент разделен практически поровну на прозападный и просирийский блоки. Главным претендентом на пост президента Ливана считается генерал Мишель Аун, политический союзник шиитской группировки «Хезболлах». Его кандидатуру поддерживают сторонники просирийского блока. Основной конкурент Ауна — представитель прозападного блока «14 марта» Самир Джааджаа, поддерживаемый суннитской партией «Аль-Мустакбаль».
