Представники десятків громадських організацій, які намагаються боротися за права виборців у США, вимагають від президента Джо Байдена жорсткіше відреагувати на спроби представників Республіканської партії обмежити виборчі права громадян.

Про це повідомляє американське видання The New York Times.

Представники громадських організацій підписали спільний лист до адміністрації Білого дому з вимогою “агресивніше наполягати на необхідності ухвалення федерального закону щодо голосування”.

На думку захисників виборчих прав громадян США, цей лист — останній доказ того, що людям не все одно й вони вимагають від президента країни захистити їхні права. На їх думку, Байден має частіше публічно висловлювати власну позицію з цього приводу (поки що була лише одна така заява).

Наразі ухвалити певний закон щодо прав громадян під час голосування на федеральному рівні неможливо через філібастер. Водночас Демократична партія знайшла та спрямувала 25 мільйонів доларів на те, аби навчити виборців правильно та швидко реєструватися на вибори, навчати особливостей голосування.

Лист підписали понад 49 організацій на рівні штатів. Зокрема, такі, як Фонд дій проєкту Нью-Джорджія, LUCHA Arizona та Detroit Action, а також деякі національні організації. Зокрема – Black Voters Matter Fund. Вони заявили про порушення прав десятків мільйонів виборців у 2020 році в таких штатах, як Джорджія, Аризона та Флорида.
