Мер міста Саус-Бенд штату Індіана Піт Бутіджедж припинив участь у виборах номінанта від Демократичної партії для участі у президентських виборах у США.
 

Про це він заявив 1 березня в Саус-Бенді під час виступу перед своїми прихильниками.

«Наша мета завжди полягала в тому, щоб об'єднати країну проти Дональда Трампа і перемогою утвердити добу наших цінностей. Тож мусимо визнати, що на цьому етапі передвиборчих перегонів найкращим способом досягти цих цілей стане завершення передвиборчої кампанії та допомога нашій партії та країні. Відтак, сьогодні (1 березня — ред.) я прийняв складне рішення припинити свою участь у виборах кандидати в президенти від Демократичної партії», — сказав Бутіджедж.

Він також подякував своїм прихильникам та сім'ї за підтримку під час кампанії.

Нагадаємо, під час перших кокусів у штаті Айова Бутіджедж посів перше місце, під час праймериз у Нью-Гемпширі — друге, а під час кокусів у Неваді та праймериз у Південній Кароліні — третє. 

Піт Бутіджедж — мер міста Саус-Бенд в штаті Індіана, учасник війни в Афганістані та відкритий гей у шлюбі. Бутіджедж народився в сім’ї науковців, закінчив Гарвард та Оксфорд. Він знає сім іноземних мов, серед яких норвезька, мальтійська і фарсі, а своєю улюбленою книгою називає «Улісс» Джеймса Джойса.
