По итогам очередного голосования в Сейме министр обороны Раймонд Вейонис (Союз "зеленых" и крестьян) остался единственным кандидатом на этот пост.
 

Вейониса поддержали 46 депутатов, юриста Эгила Левитса - 26 депутатов,сооющает DELFI.lv
Против обоих кандидатов голосовали 26 парламентариев.

В заседании Сейма объявлен перерыв на полтора часа, после чего депутаты еще раз проголосуют по кандидатуре Вейониса. Чтобы стать президентом, ему необходимо получить 51 голос. В противном случае в июне Латвию ждет еще один этап выборов, на которых появятся уже другие лица. Например, Союз "зеленых" и крестьян может выдвинуть Сескса вместо Вейониса, который заявил, что не будет участвовать во втором туре, если по итогам 3 июня не заручится поддержкой большинства парламентариев.
