Виборчі дільниці відкрилися о 7:00 за місцевим часом та мають завершити роботу о 22:00.

Головну конкуренцію чинному прем'єру Біньяміну Нетаньягу та його політичній силі на цьому голосуванні складе лівоцентристський альянс "Сіоністський табір" (Zionist Union), що обіцяє відновити відносини із палестинцями та міжнародною спільнотою.

Напередодні прем'єр Нетаньягу пообіцяв, що у випадку перемоги його партії "Лікуд" на виборах не допустить утворення Палестинської держави.

Ключовими питаннями у передвиборчій кампанії стали також відносини Ізраїлю із США та занепокоєння щодо іранської ядерної програми.

Крім того, багато кандидатів сфокусувалися на внутрішніх соціально-економічних проблемах, як-от рівень та вартість життя в країні чи повільне економічне зростання.

Центральною темою передвиборчих дискусій було і майбутнє міста Єрусалим, яке палестинці прагнуть зробити столицею своєї держави.
