В Эстонии депутаты Рийгикогу (парламента) избрали новым президентом страны директора национального музея Алара Кариса.

За его кандидатуру во втором туре проголосовали 72 парламентария, сообщает ERR.

Алар Карис был единственным кандидатом.

В первом туре 30 августа за Кариса проголосовали 63 депутата. Для избрания необходимо получить не менее 68 из 101 возможных голосов.

Президент избирается в парламенте на тайном голосовании, у каждого депутата есть один голос.

Алар Карис ранее занимал пост государственного контролера, ректора Университета естественных наук и Тартуского университета. В октябре 2017 года он стал директором Эстонского национального музея.
