У Помпеях знайшли передвиборчі написи часів Стародавнього Риму, які свідчать про корупцію в імперії — EI Pais.

Дослідники виявили усередині будинку в центральній частині Помпея стародавні написи з іменами та "перевагами" кандидатів на посаду міських магістратів.

Археологи пояснили, що у будинках прихильників кандидатів зазвичай організовувалися заходи щодо проведення передвиборчої кампанії.

Знайдені написи закликають голосувати за Авла Рустія Віра на посаду радника з громадських робіт. У цьому будинку знаходиться пекарня, яку, як видно з написів, спонсорував кандидат. На думку істориків, це доводить існування корупції в ті часи.

Автори дослідження розібрали напис і виявили, що ще в середині передвиборчої кампанії Авл Рустій Вір зрозумів, що виборців можна "перетягти" на свій бік, роздаючи хліб зі своєї пекарні людям.

Написи розташовано поруч із вівтарем, на якому зображено дві змії. Там знайшли залишки жертвопринесення.
