Британський міністр у справах Північної Ірландії Джеймс Брокеншир 16 січня оголосив про розпуск північноірландського уряду та проведення дострокових виборів 2 березня.

Зазначимо, вибори до Асамблеї Північної Ірландії - вже другі за останні 10 місяців.

Секретар Північної Ірландії був змушений оголосити про вибори в понеділок, коли стало зрозуміло, що Демократична юніоністська партія та республіканська партія "Шинн Фейн" не зможуть разом зберегти розподіл влади в регіоні.

Парламент буде працювати до 26 січня, після чого буде розпущений.

Повідомляється, що партія "Шинн Фейн" відмовилася делегувати свого представника на посаду заступника першого міністра в уряді Північної Ірландії після відставки Мартіна Макгіннесса.

Дане рішення екс-заступник першого міністра Північної Ірландії прийняв через небажання працювати в уряді, глава якого Арлін Фостер не пішла у відставку після справи про нецільове використання коштів при реалізації однієї із програми.
