55-річна Марі Ко стала першою відкритою жінкою-трансгендером, яку обрали мером французького міста.

Містечко Тіллуа-Лє-Марш'єн розташоване на півночі країни, поблизу кордону з Бельгією. Тут мешкає менш як 600 людей.

Попередній мер міста, Жан-Люк Бота, обіймав посаду мера близько 20 років, але вирішив більше не балотуватися.

Кандидатуру пані Ко підтримали 14 муніципальних депутатів із 15 - один із них утримався.

У розмові з журналістами агентства AFP, новообрана мер міста заявила, що не є "активісткою" і що передусім хоче сфокусуватися на розв'язанні місцевих проблем.

Як повідомляють французькі ЗМІ, Марі Ко мешкає у Тіллуа-Лє-Марш'єн вже близько 20 років, а трансгендерний перехід вона здійснила близько 5 років тому.

"За мене проголосували не тому, що я трансгендер, - люди підтримали мою програму", - каже пані Ко. У своїй програмі вона зосереджується на екологічних та місцевих економічних питаннях.

Мар'єн Ш'яппа, державний секретар Францїі з питань гендерної рівності, вже підтримала обрання Марі Ко у своєму твіттері.

Співзасновниця Французької асоціації трансгендерів Стефані Ніко каже, що результати голосування свідчать про те, що французи стають все більш прогресивними у своїх поглядах та підтримують тих чи інших людей безвідносно до їхньої гендерної приналежності.
