У 78-річного режисера Девіда Лінча діагностували емфізему. Про це режисер розповів в інтерв’ю виданню Sight & Sound, передають Independent і The Guardian.

Попри хворобу Лінч допускає можливість бути режисером дистанційно, однак не дуже хоче цього: «Мені подобається бути всередині процесу і черпати там ідеї. Я б намагався робити це віддалено, якщо до цього дійде».

Лінч може ходити тільки на короткі відстані, а далі починає задихатися. Тож навіть проста застуда може мати для нього серйозні наслідки.

«Я дуже любив куріння, але врешті-решт воно на мене вплинуло. Для мене це було частиною мистецького життя: тютюн, його запах, підпалювання, куріння, повернення додому, розслаблення, куріння, роздуми над роботою, роздуми над чимось; нема нічого у світі такого прекрасного, як це. Водночас воно вбиває мене. Тому я мав кинути», — пояснив режисер.

Девід Лінч не знімав повнометражних проєктів майже 20 років — його останнім фільмом стала «Внутрішня імперія» 2006 року. Відтоді він зняв і випустив лише третій сезон детективного серіалу «Твін Пікс» у 2017-му.

У квітні 2024 року Лінч розповідав, що шукає фінансування для свого анімаційного фільму Snootworld після того, як від нього відмовився Netflix
