Призначення Лули відбулося у розпал наймасштабніших протестів в історії Бразилії. Мільйони протестувальників вимагають імпічменту Русеф и арешту Лули, якого звинувачують у відмиванні грошей.

На думку критиків, Русеф призначила колишнього президента своїм начальником штабу, щоб захистити його від кримінального переслідування.
