Президент США Дональд Трамп відмовився давати точну відповідь щодо добровільної передачі влади в разі поразки на виборах.

 

Відповідну заяву він зробив під час пресконференції в Білому домі, пише Reuters.

Репортер запитав у президента, чи погодиться він передати владу кандидату від Демократичної партії Джо Байдену, якщо той переможе на виборах.

"Ми побачимо, що буде відбуватися", - відповів він.

Трамп також додав, що результати виборів можуть оскаржуватися у Верховному суді, оскільки він ставить під сумнів голосування поштою.

"Бюлетені - це катастрофа", - заявив Трамп.

Демократи заохочують до голосування поштою з міркувань безпеки в часи пандемії коронавірусу. Зазначається, що таким чином упродовж років голосували мільйоні американців - приміром, військові.

Нагадаємо, що Дональд Трамп наполягає на тому, щоб новий суддя Верховного суду замість померлої Рут Гінзбург був призначений до початку виборів президента.

Трамп збирається найближчим часом висунути кандидатуру судді, яку має підтримати Сенат. Демократи в Сенаті заявили, що будуть блокувати таке призначення, проте голова судового комітету Сенату США Ліндсі Грем заявив, що Республіканська партія уже має голоси за нового суддю Верховного суду.

Якщо республіканцям це вдастся, то шість з дев'яти членів Верховного суду будуть завдячувати своїм призначенням Республіканській партії. 

Рішення Верховного суду може впливати на результати виборів - у 2000 році суддя Гінзбург дозволила перерахувати голоси у Флориді, після чого переміг Джордж Буш-молодший.
