Старший син президента США Дональд Трамп заявив у Сенаті, що зустрічався з російською адвокаткою Наталією Весельницькою, оскільки вона нібито  мала компромат на кандидата в президенти від демократичної партії Гілларі Клінтон.

Трамп-молодший під час зустрічі за закритими дверима у Юридичному комітеті Сенату заявив, що хотів отримати у Весельницької інформацію про Клінтон, оскільки для нього важливо було дізнатися чи "придатна" вона для посади президента.

"Оскільки, вони мали інформацію щодо придатності, характеру чи кваліфікації кандидата в президенти, я вважав, що хотів би їх почути", - сказав він у заяві, яку отримало агентство.

При цьому Трамп повторив, що зустріч з російською адвокаткою Наталією Весельницькою та іншими учасниками в Трамп-Тауері в Нью-Йорку не принесла жодної важливої інформації.

Раніше видання New York Times написало, що 9 червня 2016 року син Трампа, зять президента США Джаред Кушнер та, на той момент голова виборчого штабу Пол Манафорт, зустрілися в "Трамп-тауер" з росіянкою Наталією Весельницькою, яка пов'язана з Кремлем.

За даними видання, на зустрічі Весельницька пообіцяла надати компрометуючу інформацію на Гілларі Клінтон.

Трамп молодший заявив, що на зустрічі вона говорила про скасування закону Магнітського і не надала жодної інформації про Клінтон.

Також, як повідомлялося раніше, на зустрічі були присутні Рінат Ахметшин, якого назвали колишнім радянським розвідником, екс-глава передвиборного штабу Трампа Пол Манафорт, зять президента США Джаред Кушнер.

Згодом стало відомо, що на зустрічі був присутній ще один росіянин Іке Кавеладзе - віце-президент російської компанії, що спеціалізується на будівництві і експлуатації торгової та виставкової нерухомості Crocus Group.
